Hey, my kinky, polyam peeps! Sorry again for the late update. We’re FINALLY getting through the summer season, so I’m expecting less busy days going forward, which means more frequent updates. This week we have two FANTASTIC news articles for you.
First, from Yahoo! Finance (yeah, I have no idea why they publish this stuff either) is an insight into the overlap between the transgender and kink communities. If you recall when I wrote my piece about Women and Polyamory, I was surprised to find that the LGBTQ+ community makes up a smaller portion of the polyam community than I had expected. According to Social Networking app KinkD, it’s a similar case with transgender invididuals and the kink community. Analyzing their nearly 2 million members, only about 1% self-identify as transgender, which to me seemed… low. While I certainly know far more cisgender individuals in the kink community than transgender, I personally would have placed the number in the high single digits (between 5-10%). Only one in one hundred was very surprising to me.
“The app also finds that more than half of adult trans kinksters are under 30 years old. According to KinkD, 50.85% of kinksters who identify as trans are in the 18-29 age group, compared with 42.52% of those aged 30-49 and 6.63% of those 50 and older who are transgender kinksters. “It seems that from generation to generation, gender as an important part of someone’s identity, has become more socially acceptable to be explored,” said John Martinuk, co-founder of the KinkD app.”

Second, from SheKnows.com comes a discussion about one of my favorite kinks: PEGGING!!! It may just be me, but it feels like in recent years there’s been more of an acceptance of male anal play in both the kink and vanilla communities. Not that it wasn’t shamed in the kink community. More so there seems to be more of an openness to it. Men I’ve met who once said “That’s cool, but not my thing” are now saying “Sure, I’ll give it a try”. It’s really awesome when something you enjoy gets discovered by other people. Call it “kink-persion”. You’re happy because a kink you love is now making someone else happy.
“The term “pegging” was first coined by Dan Savage all the way back in 2001 to describe when a cisgender man is penetrated by a partner who is a cis-female using a strap-on. But as attitudes around gender and gendered roles of who “naturally” gives and receives penetration have evolved, enlightened and grown up, the term is now used to describe most penetration with a strap-on.”

That’s it for this week. If you haven’t checked out my YouTube channel recently, we have a great presentation on the basics of impact play that was prepared for my local BDSM group, KEYS (Kink Education at Your Service). Stay tuned for our next article (coincidentally on impact play) and as always, stay kinky, my friends…
