Hey, my Kinky, Polyam peeps! I hope everyone is staying warm as we creep into the winter months. It was 85 degrees outside at Panda’s sister on Thanksgiving Day in Florida, so…. “No” to all of that.
While I heat up another mug of hot chocolate, let’s dig into this week’s news.
First comes big news out of Washington as the Respect for Marriage Act works it’s way through Congress. Given that it just needs a simple majority from the House to pass (which it’s already received once) and President Biden is widely expected to sign it, it’s all but a done deal. While this is a HUGE step forward for LGBTQ+ rights, sadly, as the Article from Albany ABC News 10 points out, there isn’t any protection for polyam folx.
“Getting federal protection on the books gained further prioritization after the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade earlier this year. While abortion rights under Roe were considered by many to be settled via precedent, the overturn decision (Dobbs V. Jackson’s Women’s Health Organization) added fuel to codify Obergefell — in addition to Justice Clarence Thomas calling Obergefell “demonstrably erroneous” in his Dobbs opinion.”
Second, all the way from India is a discussion on “Toxic Romanticism”. What I love so much about Polyamory, aside from the freedom to express and receive love in way that best suits me, is how the community forces you to be introspective and question societal norms that may not always be healthy.
“Our perception of love is skewed by the content we consume, and also the relationships we see around us. The typical pattern of intense passion, the conflict that makes us fight for love, and the resolution of being together forever has become a standard. Anything outside this box is considered immoral, in that we must constrain ourselves for this one love for the rest of our lives.”
That’s it for this week. Make sure to come back next Thursday because we are rocking it, kinky style with the best songs for your kinky play list!
Until next time, stay kinky, my friends…
