“I wanna fuck you like an animal
I wanna feel you from the inside
I wanna fuck you like an animal
My whole existence is flawed
You bring me closer to God”
–Nine Inch Nails, “Closer”
Hey, my Kinky, Polyam peeps! By the time this article gets posted, it’ll be just two weeks until the New Year. I try not to do New Year’s resolutions (Because I think there’s no time like the present for personal growth), but I may pick something easy and trivial, like “Be nicer to the Dommes” You know, something I KNOW I’m not actually going to follow through on…
I know posts about lists are lazy and low-effort, but it’s the Holidays. I’m allowed to be low-effort every now and then. Plus, my next article is a whopper, so I’m taking a little bit of a breather while I work ahead.
There’s nothing that quite sets the scene for action like music. If I think back to the most memorable times in my life, it’s the music associated with it that’s ingrained just as deep as the event. Everyone loves a good soundtrack, so this week, we’re gonna share some kinky tunes to add to your Playlist to spice things up. Whether you’re a top or a bottom, like it high energy or nice and slow, we’ve got a little bit of everything.
Of course, before we go any further, let’s do the infodump…
For this week’s article, I pulled twenty songs, half of them from my own scene Playlist and the other half was kindly provided to me from my good friends at Kink Education at Your Service (KEYS). I have used them as “lab rats” on more than one occasion and they’re such good sports about it, so a big “Thank You” to them.
“Closer” – Nine Inch Nails
Of course we have to kick it off with what is probably the most ubiquitous of BDSM songs. “Closer” is to BDSM clubs what “Porn Star Dancing” is to swing clubs and what “The Chicken Dance” is to weddings. It’s a staple. Even the video is drenched in BDSM energy. Black leather, chains, industrial scenery. It’s like the song was made just for the community
“Crazy Bitch” – Buck Cherry
Up tempo and great for an impact scene, one of my followers stated she likes to play this “When she’s been a bad girl”. If ever there was a song written about the struggles of dealing with a brat, this one would be near the top of the list.
“The Hills” – The Weeknd
The song opens up with a blaring tone from a synthesizer, followed by a melody in minor that conjures images of weaving through the darkness. “I only love it when you touch me, not feel me. When I’m fucked up that’s the real me” speaks to any submissive who just wants to be used.
“Devil’s at Your Door” – SWARM and TINYKVT
If you’re a fan of techno, this one’s for you. It starts with the calming sounds of rainfall and quickly builds up a rythmic beat that makes it perfect for flogging, spanking, or any sort of activity that requires a repetitive action. Plus, the lyrics speak of the inner demon inside all of us, which is always cool.
“The Beginning is the End is the Beginning” – Smashing Pumpkins
We’ll forgive the fact that the Smashing Pumpkins let this song be used to the soundtrack to that terrible “Batman and Robin” movie (how Chris O’Donnell’s career ever recovered is beyond me). The song bleeds sadness and hopelessness. It sounds like something that would be played in a gothic cathedral during a medieval funeral and is a beautiful mix of something that invokes images of things both holy and cursed.
“Sugar” – Garbage
Garbage is a band that appeared on more than one playlist that I looked at. They were one of those few artists that were able to successfully cross over into the pop space without losing that dark, goth vibe that made them a success in the first place. Shirley Manson’s raspy, yet sultry voice pleads for satisfaction in a way that would make any Dom weak in their knees.
“Come Undone” – Duran Duran
I don’t think we give enough credit to 80’s British Pop and the impact it had on the kink scene. “Who do you need? Who do you love? When you come undone?” If you’re someone like me who finds beauty in the darkness, hopelessness and losing all control is an artistic masterpiece.
“Tear You Apart” – She Wants Revenge
While the song itself is very monotone, lead singer Justin Warfield’s voice comes across as both confident and a little creepy. It reminds you of something you would hear in an old 1970’s slasher flick: A little campy, yet terrifying in its own way.
“Take Me to Church” – Hozier
I’ve already mentioned once in this article the link between BDSM and religious imagery. The idea of being tied to a St. Andrew’s Cross while flagellated has roots back in Biblical times, and Hozier beautifully ties together the analogy of love and suffering as a sign of religious devotion.
“Possession” – Sarah McLachlan
As a Queen of the Pop charts in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, you wouldn’t expect Sarah’s work to be featured on a BDSM playlist. Nothing says “edgy” like those damn ASPCA commercials. Still, her haunting voice and rhythmic beat speak of a longing desire to control that which cannot be tamed.

“Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These)” – Marilyn Manson
While it’s sacrilege to say a cover song is better than the original (because the original was created the way the artist intended), sometimes a cover song takes on a life of it’s own. Such is the case with Marilyn Manson’s cover of this Eurythmics classic. The original, already a dark techno dance mix, takes a more sinister tone that invokes visions of pain and violence. Is it any wonder Fox’s “The Following”, a show about a cult run by a serial killer, chose to feature it in its inaugural episode?
“Bad Girlfriend” – Theory of a Deadman
I think there’s this unspoken idea that BDSM and kink can’t be upbeat and “Poppy”. To admit that would mean admitting it’s “mainstream”, and thus remove some of its allure. While high-tempo has never been my vibe, Theory of a Deadman shows that you can add a high-voltage shot of energy to make the scene both exciting and sexy.
“Sour Times” – Portishead
Not every BDSM song has to sound angry and violent. Emotional pain can be just as hurtful. Portishead’s “Sour Times” could almost be mistaken for a love song. Lead singer Beth Gibbon’s smooth-as-honey voice, along with the use of synthesizer and sitar, make this song tug at your heart over a need that could never be fulfilled.
“Do I Wanna Know?” – Arctic Monkeys
I believe there’s a couple of hallmarks that make for a great song. One of them is a solid bass line. Couple it with a distorted electric guitar and the Arctic Monkeys give you an ode to the cat and mouse game between Dom and Sub. “How many secrets can you keep?” How many indeed…
“Personal Jesus” – Depeche Mode
No BDSM playlist would be complete without the Boys from Baslidon. As I mention for the third time in this article, it’s not uncommon for kink to have religious undertones. Call it a combination of both the deep dedication its participants feel and a need to poke fun at the establishment. The song is truly a classic that has stood the test of time.
“Bad Habits” – Ed Sheerhan
If there’s one thing the community understands, it’s how to “get into trouble”. To love kink, one must be, on a certain level, a rebel who isn’t afraid to buck social norms. We embrace that which the vanilla community chooses to scorn, and Ed Sheeran’s ode to all those “bad habits” resonate with those who wear the status of an “outsider” as a badge of honor.
“Heathens” – Twenty-One Pilots
I’m a big fan of any scenario that allows me explore the darker aspects of my personality in a safe, controlled space. I made my D&D character Chaotic Neutral, because sometimes it’s fun to play the bad guy. “Heathens” plays with the concept that even the most innocent of us are capable of doing despicable things given the right circumstances.
“Bela Lugosi’s Dead” – Bauhaus
Bauhaus answers the question: “What if a bunch of Goths wrote a techno song?” At nearly ten minutes long with first three minutes being pure instrumental, it’s a strange mix of both the acoustic and electric that pulls you in, tunes out the outside world, and helps you focus in on the scene.
“Dark Necessities” – Red Hot Chili Peppers
RHCP is one of my go-to bands when I need to get my adrenaline pumping. Their heavy beats in songs like “Can’t Stop” and “Give it Away Now” instill a sense of motivation and determination that make their music great for work outs. “Dark Necessities” takes that same energy and turns it inward to explore what drives us.
“Do Not Disturb” – Halestorm
Right off the bat, this song doesn’t pull any punches. It opens with a blaring guitar riff and moves right into sexy, suggestive language. “I love your accent. I wonder what it sounds like when you cum.” Halestorm is anything but modest and gives off an energy that screams “I wanna play!”
So, that wraps it up for this week’s article. I hope I’ve given your brain something to think about and your ears something to listen to. Panda, Penguin, and I are all ready for a play party this Saturday. Who knows? Maybe I’ll get to try out some of these songs myself.
Until next time, stay kinky, my friends…
